Flagler County

Population: 61,538
Square miles: 485

Flagler County is located on the upper east coast of Florida, 31 miles south of St. Augustine and 24 miles north of Daytona Beach. It is bordered on the east by 19 miles of Atlantic Ocean.

Flagler County's slow growth before 1970 resulted in the preservation of its natural environment and protected greenways. Flagler County has since grown to a population of 51,417 in 2001. It was named the eighth fastest growing county in the United States from 1990 to 2000 and the fastest growing county in the State of Florida. The County’s largest community is Palm Coast, a thriving development with a lovely hometown feel. It is also home to Hammock Dunes, an upscale private golf course community on the last undeveloped stretch of Florida’s Atlantic Ocean beaches.

Flagler County has an involved citizenry dedicated to maintaining orderly growth. The business and civic leaders share the vision of balanced economic growth and the preservation of our history, culture and natural environment. The result is a high quality of living with state-of-the-art medical facilities, first-rate schools, and superior recreation without a loss of the old Florida way of life.

On the east side of the county are nineteen miles of beaches. The cities of Flagler Beach and Beverly Beach offer a relaxed, laid back, ocean shore atmosphere where visitors and residents alike enjoy the Florida fun and sun way of life.

On the west side of the county visitors and residents drive on tree and farm lined rural roads, viewing the strong agricultural base that plays an important part in Flagler’s economy. Potato, cabbage and sod farms as well as timber stands and cattle are abundant here.
