for Strings and Ribbons Games Final Results Presentation
The Volusia County MPO recognizes
the importance of the citizen input process as a means to
inform, educate, and involve citizens in the transportation
decisions that impact our daily lives. By involving the public
in the planning process early and often, transportation planners
are better able to ensure that plans and programs are developed
in a way that reflects our community values and benefits all
segments of the population equally.
The Volusia County MPO has a strong commitment to increasing the
citizen involvement activities used to support the development
of the 20-year Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). This is
reflected in a citizens outreach program called “Strings and
Ribbons” that the MPO has undertaken to solicit input from
citizen groups in both Volusia and Flagler counties.

Strings and Ribbons is a consensus building game that allows
participants to “play” at developing a 20-year long range vision
of transportation improvements for their community. By playing
the game, participants learn about the impact and importance of
transportation planning for their community. In addition, the
game allows technical staff to gain better insight into the
desires of the community at large.
